LSCoFR was called to Sandy Shores Airfield for an emergency landing. The plane out from Idaho stated "we are carrying a plane full of propane and have no hydraulics or landing gear." LSCoFR staged at the airfield and waited for the landing. Upon landing the plane skidded on its stomach for over 400 feet before grinding to a complete stop. Fire and Rescue immendly started to evacuate the plane and spray the engine and wings with fire resistant foam. While evacuating "the back gate of the plane, held up with hydraulics, opened and over 50 propane tanks spilled out."~Reardon44
The propane tanks started to leak gas and at that time the LSCoFR and LSCoSD evacuated the area, 4 minutes later the entire plane erupted into a fireball. Only one person was killed in this incident, the pilot and crew stated that the propane tanks fell onto the man impaling him during the lostage of hydraulics. FAA is now investigating into the wreckage for reasons of the incident. Sandy Shores Airfield will remain closed for the next 3 weeks, all flights and event redirected to the Mckenzie Airfield.
